The Elephants Perch Team had two teams competing in the Sun Valley Snowball Fatbike race this past Saturday. Kyle Rafford and Cameron Lloyd raced along with another team that consisted of Perch team member Karoline Droege and her husband Chris. The sun was shining and the course was groomed perfectly. The relay race consisted of 2-20K laps around the Diamondback cross country loop, out past the Sun Valley Gun Club, around the Boundary Loop and back to the start near the Sun Valley Club.
Kyle and Karoline started the race strong with around 10 other relay teams. Kyle and Joel Brazille (Team Sturtevants) set a torrid pace and were the first relay teams to come into the start finish at around 55 minutes. Kyle handed the bike off to Cameron while Joel handed his steed to partner Scott Robinson (Team Sturtevants). Cameron was able to take some time on Scott going up the Diamondback climb and push the lead heading out to the Gun Club. The lead grew and grew and Cameron was able to get a comfortable lead heading home to seal the win for Team Perch.
Karoline and Chris were able to keep the hard charging Club Ride team of Kelli Lusk and Scott Montgomery at bay to finish in first place in the co-ed division.
All in all the Snowball race was a great event. A huge thanks to Rebecca Rusch, Greg Martin, Rusch Relations, and Breakaway Promotions who were able to pull off a great race with the cooperation of the Sun Valley Company. The course was well thought out and the venue was a perfect site for the race. Hopefully SV Co. was able to see how much people really do like riding their bikes in the snow and hopefully that wil translate into more trails being fatbike friendly in the future. If you were spectating at the race or if were brave enough to get yourself on a bike make sure to thank the SV Co. or email firstname.lastname@example.org to let Tim Silva know how much fun you had out there!
