The Elephant’s Perch began in 1976 when a young adventurer, Bob Rosso, opened his store named for the famous rock face that towers above the Saddleback Lakes in the Sawtooth Mountains. For nearly half a century, Bob and Kate Rosso poured their passion for the outdoors into both the Perch store and supporting the greater outdoor community here in Idaho. From cross-country skiing and cycling, backpacking and rock climbing; The Perch has become one of the finest independent outdoor shops in the country, specializing in gear that enhances your experience in the Great Outside.
Now, Bob and Kate have passed the torch to a group of six local, avid outdoor enthusiasts to carry on the tradition of community involvement and high-quality service. Commitment to the local community runs deep at The Perch and it shows through our work with the BCRD, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, and support of programs like the Miles of Smiles bike project for kids, our involvement with the Boulder Mountain Tour XC ski race, and hosting several community focused talks and presentations from groups like Sawtooth Avalanche Center and the Idaho Conservation League.
