A Message from the Owners

The gear we sell has always been the best in the outdoor industry

But it’s our people who really make the difference

The Sun Valley area draws unique outdoor enthusiasts, and we try to sort out the most passionate and caring individuals we can find.
Our core group of employees live and breathe the outdoor world, and our seasonal employees are on their way to that same passion!
Bob Rosso

Founder & Owner of The Elephants Perch

For more than 40 years, Bob Rosso is no stranger to the many changes in the outdoor equipment market and the retail environment. With internet sales and large outdoor retailers vying for customers’ attention, Bob Rosso and his team at The Elephant’s Perch continue to enjoy success based on a simple formula: hard work, excellent customer service, and product knowledge that large-scale retailers can only dream of.

It’s usually a love of the outdoors that draws a person to the outdoor equipment business. When Bob’s not challenging a difficult pitch on a rocky wall, you can find him tearing up the pavement on his bike, piling up kilometers on the local cross-country trails, backpacking in the mountains, or seeking fresh powder in the backcountry. Having grown up with California’s sun and surf, Bob sneaks away from the mountains occasionally to free dive and surf. Competing in a variety of athletic events gives him the chance to test the gear that he sells and share that knowledge with his customers.

In addition to his many outdoor pursuits, Bob enjoys spending time with his son, Stephen, and his wife, Kate, to whom he has been married for 40 years.

Kate Rosso

Runs the Elephants Perch

Running The Elephant’s Perch with her husband Bob has provided Kate with 40+ rewarding years of working and playing in the mountains. As co-owner and soft-goods buyer, Kate derives great pleasure from meeting and helping her customers.

Like many people who live and work in the Wood River Valley, Kate came to the area to spend a summer working before college. During that time, she fell in love with the mountains and Bob Rosso (although it’s not quite clear which happened first).

A family that plays together stays together, and Kate is an enthusiastic participant in the Wood River Valley’s countless outdoor activities. She especially enjoys skiing, hiking, and bicycling with her husband and friends. Her latest pursuit is learning to fly fish in the pristine pools and rivers of Idaho. When she’s not on the trails or the river, Kate enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, and artistic endeavors.

Whether she’s helping a customer find the perfect garment for their next adventure or planning more than a year in advance for the latest in outdoor apparel, Kate’s warm personality and sincere demeanor make the shopping experience at The Elephants Perch extra memorable.
